Aad van der Steen is employed by the University of Utrecht as a consultant in Computational Mathematics and by the Computer Branch of the Dutch NSF (National Computer Facilities, NCF). At the NCF he is head of the benchmarking group for providing large scale national computing facilities. He is author of numerous publications on benchmarking high-performance computers and one of the co-founders of the EuroBen benchmarking group. He is also involved in the Parkbench benchmarking group. He was editor-in-chief and co-author of the books:

"Evaluating Supercomputers" (Chapman & Hall, London, 1990)

and

"Aspects of Computational Science" (NCF, The Hague, 1995)

Dr. van der Steen has given similar tutorials the HPCN Europe '95 and HPCN Europe '96 conferences jointly with Prof. Hockney. A benchmarking tutorial for HPC Asia '95 was accepted but not given because of a typhoon on the day of lectures. Another benchmarking tutorial has been given at Supercomputing '96 in Pittsburgh by the proposer.
