Climate models are composed of different components such as atmosphere, ocean, land, and sea-ice. Because the individual models have to interact by exchanging data with each other, a coupling technique for use on powerful computers is required. This paper describes the coupling of an atmosphere model to an ocean model using the coupling library MpCCI, which has been developed and used for general multidisciplinary applications. It is shown that the coupling technique is efficiently implemented using the coupling library, and that the overhead for coupling is almost negligible. |
